Share:

If you’re like me and you’re used to coffee made with a kettle or coffee from an espresso machine. Then Keurig coffee can be a bit cooler in comparison. I have found a few simple solutions to make my Keurig coffee hotter.

In this article, I’m going to share the things that made my Keurig coffee hotter.

How To Make Keurig Coffee Hotter?

The best thing you can do to make your Keurig coffee hotter is to preheat your cup and add a little boiling water to your coffee. If you want an even hotter coffee, you should preheat and descale your Keurig coffee maker.

For cappuccino drinkers, it is a good idea to use a milk frother to warm the milk before using it for your cappuccino.

Preheat The Cups

The most effective way to make your Keurig coffee hotter is to preheat your coffee cup with some boiling water.

You don’t necessarily need to use a kettle for this. Before you put the K-cup in your Keurig to make coffee. First, you can put some hot water from your Keurig coffee maker in your cup and stir it around a bit to warm it up.

Then throw the water in the sink, put a K-cup in your Keurig and make a coffee.

Of course, this doesn’t really apply to disposable cups. Since a plastic or cardboard cup doesn’t really retain heat the way a ceramic or glass cup does.

Add Some Boiling Water To Your Keurig Coffee

Another easy thing you can do to make your coffee hotter is to add some boiling water after you’ve brewed your coffee.

Don’t add so much water that it will delude your coffee. But add just a tiny bit, about 2 teaspoons of hot water will warm your coffee up noticeably and it will still taste great.

You can use the same boiling water that you just used to preheat your cups.

Preheat The Keurig Coffee Maker

I don’t usually do this myself, but I read somewhere that you can preheat your Keurig coffee maker by running some water through it before you put the K-cup in.

When you go to make a coffee. Turn on your Keurig and just press the coffee button without a K-cup in it.

The coffee maker and the tubes inside are now preheated, so when you make a coffee now, it’s also a little warmer. I don’t do this myself, it does make sense to do though.

Use a Milk Frother For Your Cappuccinos

If you’re like me and you like to use separate milk to make a cappuccino instead of the cappuccino K-cup. Then the milk you use can significantly lower the temperature of your Keurig coffee.

What I have done is I bought a milk frother that heats and froths the milk. This way the milk foam will also be hot and not cool down your Keurig coffee.

Descale Your Keurig Coffee Maker

If you haven’t descaled your Keurig coffee maker in a long time there might be some scale buildup on the heating element, Lessening its ability to heat the water going through it.

Descaling your Keurig machine is quite easy. But if you have a newer Keurig model like the K-express or K-supreme you have to put your machine in a descaling cycle.

This is how you descale a Keurig K-Express and this is how you descale a Keurig K-Supreme.

If You Have An Older Keurig Model

Older Keurig models can be stuck in “high altitude” mode. Which causes your Keurig to make coffee that’s about 6 degrees cooler than normal.

To turn this off, you first need to turn your Keurig coffee maker off. Then hold the 8oz button and the “strong” button until the lights flash three times. Now your coffee maker is out of high altitude mode and should make hotter coffee again.

Keurig Coffee Is Cold

If your Keurig coffee is just as cold as the water you put in the reservoir. Then the heating element in the coffee maker is probably broken.

The best thing you can do in this case is to call Keurig customer service. If you are still under warranty, they will either take it in and repair it or send you a new one.

Conclusion

Although you probably bought the Keurig coffee maker for its convenience. Some of these tips will make it a bit more inconvenient to use but it’s always easier than messing around with a french press.

It can be annoying when you want a hot cup of coffee but instead, you get a lukewarm cup of coffee. To summarize, here is how you can make your Keurig coffee warmer:

  • Preheat your coffee cup
  • Add some boiling water to your coffee
  • Preheat your Keurig coffee maker
  • Use a milk frother for your cappuccino
  • Descale your keurig coffee maker

I hope that this article helped you with getting a hotter Keurig coffee!
