You might just have bought a Keurig K-Duo and you want to set it up properly, you came to the right place.
From setting the time to adjusting for high altitudes, this guide helps you unlock the full potential of your Keurig coffee maker with the right setup.
Let’s get started!
How To Set Time On Keurig K-Duo
Setting the time on your Keurig K-Duo is quite easy, here is how you do it:
- Entering time-setting mode: Push and hold the ‘H’ button for about four or five seconds. The clock will start blinking to indicate it’s in the time-setting mode.
- Setting the hour: Now that you’re in the time-setting mode, press the ‘H’ button (hours) until you get to the current hour. For example, if the current time is 3:35 PM, you’d press the ‘H’ button until it shows 3.
- Setting the minutes: After setting the hour, you’ll need to set the minutes. To do this, press the ‘M’ button (minutes). The first time you press it, it will reset the minute counter to zero. Press it once more, and you can then increase the minutes. In our example, you’d press it until it shows 35.
- Finalizing your settings: Once you’ve set the time to the correct hour and minute, press the K button in the middle of the device. This will save your settings.
- AM and PM settings: Remember, the Keurig K-Duo Plus also differentiates between AM and PM. If you want to switch between them, go back to the ‘H’ button and cycle through the hours until you reach the PM side.
That’s it! You’ve now set the time on your Keurig K-Duo Plus coffee maker.
If you notice the display is not showing the time as expected, it could indicate an error code. I’ve put together a comprehensive guide on how to resolve such error codes on a Keurig coffee maker here.
How To Set Auto Brew
Autobrew is a feature that allows you to program your Keurig to make coffee at a certain time, up to a day ahead. Just make sure the clock on your machine is showing the right time so your coffee starts brewing at the time you’ve chosen.
This is how you set up the Auto Brew function:
- Fill up the water to the MAX line and insert the paper filter with coffee grounds.
- Click on the AUTO button. Adjust the time for auto brewing using the H/M buttons. Confirm the time by hitting the flashing BREW button.
- Next, select the brew size. Confirm your selection by pressing the flashing BREW button again.
You’ve now successfully set up Auto Brew. You’ll see a clock symbol on the display and the AUTO button will light up to indicate that Auto Brew is active.
When Auto Brew is on, you can only use the single-cup function. To turn off Auto Brew, press the AUTO button again. The clock symbol will vanish from the display.
Remember to ensure that your coffee pot is empty before the programmed brewing time, as the coffee maker will start brewing automatically. The machine also features a warming plate that will keep your coffee warm after brewing.

How To Change The Temperature On Keurig K-Duo
The K-Duo coffee maker doesn’t have a temperature setting function, it is set to the best temperature to make your coffee taste great. The coffee it makes can be anywhere from 170-190 degrees Fahrenheit, whether you’re making a 6, 8, 10, or 12-oz cup.
However, there are a few things you can do that influence the temperature of your Keurig coffee. If you want your coffee to be colder you can change your Duo to the high-altitude setting, read the section below to learn how to do that.
If you want your K-duo to be warmer here is a list of things you could try:
- Preheat your coffee cups.
- Add boiling water to your brewed coffee.
- Preheat the Keurig coffee maker.
- Use a milk frother for cappuccinos.
- Regularly descale your Keurig coffee maker.
I wrote a more in-depth full guide on how to make your Keurig coffee warmer here.
How To Set High Altitude Settings
Although there is no settings function for the temperature, there is a high altitude mode that makes the coffee colder. So if you found that your coffee has been colder lately you might have changed it to this setting accidentally or if you want your coffee to be a bit colder, you can change it to this setting.
The Keurig K-Duo and K-Duo Plus have a high-altitude mode designed for people living above 5000 feet. If you don’t live above 5000 feet, you should ensure this mode is deactivated, only activate it if you want cooler coffee.
The Keurig K-Duo Essentials does not have a high-altitude setting.
This is how you change the high altitude setting on the Keurig K-Duo Plus:
- Make sure there is enough water in the tank and the “add water” light is off.
- Power off the K-Duo Plus.
- Press and hold the eight-ounce button and the strong brew buttons together for three seconds.
- When the mountain icon appears on the display, it means the high altitude mode is on.
- Repeat if you want to turn high altitude mode off again.

When brewing in high altitude mode, K-Cups can become inflated due to the altitude. To combat this, Keurig advises users to pierce the bottom of the K-Cup before closing the lid.
You do this by pushing the K-Cup onto the machine’s bottom needle until you hear a pop, then close the lid which will pierce the top of the K-Cup.
